My Life as an EPIC WIN
Do you ever wonder what you’ll do as an adult? Should you go to college or university? Will you get your own apartment? What kind of job or career do you want? Will you make new friends?
If you are a teen or young adult (17-23 years old) with Aspergers or High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, this may be the program for you! My Life as an EPIC WIN is an interactive, supportive and fun 12-week small-group program which helps you:
- Get clear on what you really want in life
- Create a goals roadmap
- Learn how to keep going when faced with barriers
- Build a support team to help you fulfill your dreams
Being able to communicate these ideas with other people opens their eyes. … I see them become much more comfortable with themselves.] - Epic Win Facilitator wth ASD
The group has 7-10 participants who use discussion, modeling, role-play exercises, in-class exercises and homework assignments to teach and support learning skills for a successful transition to adulthood.
At the same time, parents/guardians are trained in how they can support their youth’s development. The parent group curriculum mirrors that of the youth group with several weeks of joint work between the parent and youth participants.
The course ends with the creation of an Epic Life video for each participant in which they are interviewed about their interests, strengths, accomplishments, passions and goals, and about the kind of supports you need for a successful transition to adulthood.
By the end of the course, participants and their parents/guardians will be able to actively listen to each other and work collaboratively; participants will be able to set goals, create action plans, problem solve, stay in action and take on achieving their adult goals.
